Reviews and assessments

FinOps and cloud cost review

A review of what you spend on AWS or Azure, what that spend buys and how much of it you can stop paying. The output is a savings register with a dollar figure against every line.

Who it is for

This is for CFOs, CTOs and engineering leaders whose cloud bill has grown faster than revenue, or who cannot say which product or customer a given cost belongs to.

What gets reviewed

  • Idle and oversized compute, storage and databases.
  • Savings Plans, Reserved Instances and Azure reservations, including coverage and commitment risk.
  • Data transfer, NAT gateway and logging costs, which are often the least visible lines on the bill.
  • Storage lifecycle, snapshots and backups.
  • Tagging and cost allocation, so that spend can be attributed to teams, products and customers.
  • Budgets, anomaly alerts and the reporting that keeps costs down after the review.

What you get

  • A savings register with each opportunity sized in dollars per month, with effort and risk noted.
  • Quick wins that can be actioned in the first week.
  • A commitment purchase recommendation based on your actual usage history.
  • A cost allocation and tagging standard.
  • Optional implementation of the savings.

How it runs

The review needs read-only access to billing and cost data and usually takes one to two weeks. It is fixed scope. Hamer Technical does not resell cloud services or take a share of savings, so the recommendations carry no commercial bias.

Common questions

What is FinOps?

FinOps is the practice of managing cloud spend as an engineering and finance discipline. It makes costs visible, attributes them to the teams and products that incur them, and builds the habits that keep spend in proportion to value.

How much can a cloud cost review save?

It depends on how long the environment has gone without a review. The savings register sizes every opportunity against your own billing data, so you can see the figure before you commit to any change.

Do you take a percentage of the savings?

No. The review is fixed scope and you keep all of the savings.
